Results Driven

Much as character & resilience, plus plenty of perseverance can take you forward in life, a clutch of good results & academic paperwork are definitely very helpful. As WTA is constantly progressing and developing, so academic success also significantly raises the profile, reputation & marketing potential of the school.

Academic results are taken particularly seriously by parents who had limited education, due to political unrest or no money for secondary school. Happily, this year the school rose up onto a new level with O’ level results. For the first time in WTA history, all 173 students passed each subject.

This is no mean feat, considering the following:

• WTA is not a selective school
• 8 out of 9 subjects are compulsory, including separate papers in Physics, Chemistry & Biology
• many students miss large chunks of the term, due to the financial challenge of school fees

Students and teachers had been waiting over 4 months for results, so relief and delight are real and extremely infectious. Immediately, parents and students start phoning to congratulate and thank the Headteacher and teaching staff - there is a lot to celebrate.

As a result of the impressive results, especially across all Science subjects, this term there is a higher turn up for students in S5 (= Year 12/Lower 6). Many of the new class are returning WTA students and many others continue to join from other schools due to the growing reputation of WTA. Every day, new students arrive - even though it is already Week 6!

A’ level results have also just been released. Although they are more of a ‘mixed bag’, many students can go onto degree and diploma course – moving up to the next level and better equipped for life. At last, the Ugandan 'new curriculum' has just reached this year's S6, so A' Level exam style and assessments are completely different for 2026. More interesting changes ahead. 

‘Back in the day’, everyone used to get so excited about one student passing just one Science subject. One important milestone was 2019, when the first girl passed all three Sciences, enabling her to go into a nursing. On the old site, WTA did not even offer A’ levels. Progress, resources & academic success definitely make good partners. And that's a great result!
