New school ideas…. 300 radio lessons and counting.

‘Think different’ said Steve Jobs (his English teacher perhaps should have corrected him to say ‘think differently’!). In Gulu, the team at READ for Life together working with Connect teachers have certainly been ‘thinking different’ about how to continue with primary education this year.
Faced with huge constraints of what is not possible at the moment, due to the endless school closure and continuing lockdown in Uganda, they continue to find new ways of moving forward. Recently, Jody surprised the teams by holding a surprise party to acknowledge their great contribution during lockdown and school closure – a total (at that time) of 206 live radio lessons and 70 recorded lessons of literacy, writing, maths and reading stories aloud. They have now broadcast over 300 lessons and continue to send groups of teachers to broadcast regularly reaching hundreds of thousands of listeners – parents and children together - right across northern Uganda.
Click here to hear Jody, explaining what they do and, needless to say, the importance of carrying on.
The power of radio is phenomenal at a time like this. Each broadcast costs £75 per hour. If you would like to sponsor a radio broadcast lesson, please get in touch with us or sponsor via the website www.servedirect.org and mark your donation RADIO
