Change.... at last....
Empty now, but not for much longer....

For over 6 months, the WTA site has been empty of all students. Lockdown has been both strict and extreme, so schools across Uganda have remained completely closed, students stuck at home and all education effectively suspended. However, at the end of September, the government finally made some sweeping new announcements...

Most significantly, schools have to open on October 15th but only for the 'candidate' classes (that is S4/O' level, S6/A' level and P7 - the last year of primary). Other classes may be called back in 2021, but nothing is certain.

With such short notice and only two weeks before opening, there are huge implications from this new edict. The school is obliged to put in stringent measures and procedures in order to operate and welcome students back. The SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) run to many many pages, all of which must be followed to the letter. Director Charles and Headteacher Benard are working through these with the support staff and academic staff to ensure complete compliance.

But it's not that simple. Looking ahead, the repercussions of a few classes completing the year, but others not able to return, will undoubtedly cause a 'bottleneck' of students at school next year. But that will be next year's problem....

Teachers, support staff and administrative staff are all now busy meeting, planning and getting ready, so in a few weeks' time, the site will be less empty, now that some students will be able to return.. slowly by slowly, mpola mpola, pole pole...
